At this week's 2010 San Diego Comicon, there were a amount of huge announcements in the entertainment world. While many fans went gaga over the new Tron heritage trailer or were blinded by the awesomeness of numerous comic and film panels there was one small outline that very quietly made a huge stir in the Lego world.
Sitting astride a camel, in a diorama of Prince Of Persia Lego sat the outline of Jack Sparrow, Captain Jack Sparrow to be precise, and he looked very, very cool. Of course there have been rumors of new Pirates Of the Caribbean Lego sets, ever since Lego and Disney got together to furnish sets based on the Pixar films and the live activity film Prince Of Persia. Not only that but they discontinued their beloved Pirates theme of sets, manufacture way for someone else Pirate franchise with an inbuilt sense of fun and popularity.

But rumors are just that until proved beyond a doubt and this weekend fans were given their first sign of proof. The Jack Sparrow minifig is just as cool as you would like it to be. Johnny Depp played the character with such panache and the costume manufacture was so spot-on that it would be hard to fail in replicating the essence of Jack Sparrow unless you did something very wrong, but Lego designers have done it again and delivered a outline that just oozes manic cool.
So while fans await the revelation of new figures and new sets, no doubt to be released in the build up to the fourth movie in the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise, On Stranger Tides in 2011, we can rest assured that the designs are in safe hands (megablocks anyone?) and will honor both the quirkiness and depth of the characters.
Bring me that horizon in 2011!
